Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led HIV initiatives prioritise cultural sensitivity and community involvement as we work alongside our members and communities to close the gap in HIV for Indigenous peoples.

Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities remain a priority population in the HIV response. Health Equity Matters is committed to working towards closing the gap in HIV for Indigenous communities. We are doing this by working closely with our members to develop culturally appropriate community resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Additionally, resources have been developed for healthcare workers to aid them in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in a culturally sensitive manner. These resources aim to assist the workforce in engaging with communities in a culturally informed way.

All of our work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is carried out in partnership with our member organisation, the Anwernekenhe National HIV Alliance

Introducing the US Mob and HIV Website: A Culturally Informed HIV Resource

Health Equity Matters in partnership with the Anwernekenhe National HIV Alliance (ANA) launched the US Mob and HIV website. This is a culturally informed HIV resource for community.

This site contains useful information on HIV prevention, testing, treatment and other resources that deal with both men’s and women’s business.
